kybecca wine & gourmet December 6 for $60 – Sparkling Wines
This month’s theme is Sparkling wines. Sparkling wines are not only interesting and fun wines, they are the best way to celebrate the holidays. We have collected six different styles of sparkling wine for you to explore and help you ring in the New Year.
Piere Larousse Blanc de Blancs –No collection of sparkling wines is complete without something from France. This wine comes from the Languedoc region in southern France, home to some of the best values coming out of that country. This sparkling wine is a brut (dry) blend of Chenin Blanc and Pinot Blanc. It is light and crisp with citrus and tropical fruit flavors. The blanc de blancs (white of whites) means it comes only from ‘white’ grapes.
Conde de Subirats Cava – Cava is the national sparkling wine of Spain. This wine is produced from grapes grown in the heart of Sant Sadurni d’Anoia, the birthplace of Cava, among the high altitude hills of the subregion of Espiells. The grapes are harvested early to maintain naturally fresh, crisp acidity and are then fermented, separately in temperature controlled stainless steel to maintain the optimum of bright fruit aromas. Grapes: 55% Macabeo, 40% Parellada, 5% Chardonnay.
Silverwing Sparkling NV Brut – This wine from Australia is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, two of the three grapes used to make Champagne. It has floral aromas and flavors of lemon citrus, peach, minerality, and some toasty notes. Very bright on the palate with a crisp finish. A very nice inexpensive alternative to Champagne.
Baby Prosecco – This one has already been a customer favorite. Prosecco, from the Veneto region in Italy, makes a fantastic aperitif wine with its delicate flavors. This Prosecco is what’s known as a frizzante, or semi-sparkling, so it’s not as bubbly as other sparkling wines. We recommend you drink this before a good meal, or mix with juices to make cocktails like Mimosas or Bellini’s.
Rioulo Pink Prosecco –A rosé Prosecco? We didn’t know they existed either. This one is made from a grape known as Raboso. Slightly off-dry, it has flavors of ripe red cherries and freshly picked strawberries. Note: not as sweet as it looks!
Ca’Bona
Sangue di Jiuda– Sangue di Jiuda
translates to ‘blood of Judas’. We
don’t get it either. Still, we really
loved this one from the first time we tasted it. This is the only sweet wine of the group. It is a blend of Bonarda, Barbera, and a
local grape of Lombardy called Uva Rara.
Done in a frizzante style, it has really nice red fruit and grapey
flavors. It is important to note that
this wine is naturally sweet (no sugar or grape extract added), hence the low
alcohol. A very nice Sunday afternoon
or after dinner treat.
