6 for $60 Wine Pack

6 for $60 Wine Pack

kybecca wine & gourmet August 6 for $60 – Chair Wines!

These wines were selected as a result of our contest on who could pick the best theme for August’s 6 for $60.  The winner was “Chair Wines” submitted by Michelle and Wes Shaw.  Here’s their explanation: “I once asked Kyle what a particular wine paired best with, and he enthusiastically replied, a chair! August: the epitome of hot lazy days-- no one wants to think about what to cook, much less what to pair a wine with, so why not have a box of wines that taste great as is- all you need is a chair, to sit and enjoy your wine with!  (thanks, Kyle!)”

So here they are, six wines you don’t need to pair with food, just your favorite place to sit:

Grooner Gruner Veltliner (Austria) – Slowly but surely, Gruner Veltliners are becoming more popular as people realize their value.  This grape is native to Austria, and when made in the style of this “Grooner” results in a dry and flavorful white with good fruit flavors backed up by mouth-watering acidity and just a touch of a white pepper flavor.  Especially good for the summertime.

No Time Viura/Chardonnay (Spain) – This beauty is from the Navarra region of Spain.  It’s about 80% viura with the rest Chardonnay.  Viura is the primary grape used to make white Rioja.  It is dry and crisp but has a pleasantly fruity taste with flavors of melon, pear, and citrus.

Torley Charmant (Hungary) – The sister wine to the already very popular Torley Fortuna sparkling wine.  This rosé version is a blend of Kekfrankos (also known as Blaufrankisch) and Pinot Noir.  Like the Fortuna, this wine is done in a semi-sweet style.  Perfect for parties, on a Sunday afternoon, or as a treat after a long day of work (the way we prefer to have it).

No Time Tempranillo (Spain) – Another one from the No Time line, also from Navarra.  This Tempranillo is great on its own because it has no oak influence, so it’s bright, fruity, and the tannins are very low making it very smooth to drink.  Flavors of black cherry, blackberries, red fruits and a little bit of spice.  This one actually tastes better on its own than with a meal, which is not common for red wines. Chill this

In Situ Merlot (Chile) – This Merlot is a heck of a bargain, and definitely the best Merlot in this price range we’ve tasted all year.  It is very true to the varietal’s character:  light in color, with blackberry and earthy/herbal flavors mingling together.  Unlike the over-extracted, doctored-up Merlots that tend to dominate the market, this one is the real deal.  Its light body ensures that it will go down nice and smooth.

Jim Jim Shiraz (Australia)– An old favorite that we decided fit our theme well enough to put into the pack.  This one is for those who like big, rich red wines but don’t want a bunch of tannins getting in the way.  Jammy and viscous, this Shiraz is the classic Australian style.  Flavors of cassis, blueberry, and more fruit
