Ca'Bona Buttafuoco Oltrepo' Pavese
(Lombardia)
The Tenuta Malaspina Estate, originally called Ca'Bona is in the hills of the
Oltrepo Pavese which is located on the right bank of the river Po. The
buttafuoco ("sparks like fire") is made from a blend of barbera,
croatina (known as bonarda in this area), pinot nero, una rara and ughetta
(known as vespolina). This wine drinks
like a dry Lambrusco. It’s rich, and
earthy, showing firm tannins and a slight effervescence. Known for its fruity
aromatic nose and good acidity, this wine is a terrific match with tomato
sauced pastas or light salads.
