Veuve Fourny Ratafia de Champagne
Ratafia de Champagne is a type of dessert wine very rarely found in the United States. Don't be confused - it's not the sparkly stuff Champagne is known for but rather a very interesting dessert or aperitif wine. To make it, the winemakers blend a sort of brandy made of Champagne grapes with unfermented juice of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. It is then placed into oak barrels to age for 2 years. The result is a slightly sweet, almost sherry-like wine that pairs extremely well with creme brulee or equally creamy desserts. This is something truly unique for your next dinner party, or as a gift for the wine lover who has already seen everything.
Many Champagne houses produce this type of wine, but rarely is it exported. We're happy to have some to pass on to you.
